IIRC it's 6A per pin, but I was corrected earlier somewhere else, I think it's closer to 9A or 11A per pin- so it's more than enough for most needs. Thanks.Ĭan I really trust those 4-pin molex-to-8-pin adapters?Don't draw too much current through them and you'll be fine. Sorry for such a range of questions in this forum, but the most urgent one is definitely the GPU power adapter question. Between Ubuntu and Mint, what would you recommend? Is that a workable plan? I'm pretty out of date on Linux these days but I used Redhat 5 quite a bit and used Ubuntu a little about 6-7 years ago. I can't find my old copies either so I think I'm stuck with Win 10 for the gaming, but if I'm going to be stuck with Win 10 I would rather use Linux for everything I don't absolutely need Windows for. With that SATA array, how practical would it be to dual-boot Win 10 and Linux Mint? I wanted to use Win 7 but the guy I'm getting the system from hates Windows 7 with a passion and has several legit copies of Win 10 and no copies of Win 7. I primarily play Insurgency(Sernix mod), Lego Worlds, and GTA 5. Is that worth it? I mostly game on this system. Is that a good plan? Also, for a couple hundred I can get dual X5670 CPUs and 24gb of DDR3. Can I really trust those 4-pin molex-to-8-pin adapters?Īlso this thing has 5x 500GB SATA-3 drives in it, so I'm considering doing two mirrored sets with a hot spare. The big problem though is that the 600W redundant PSU does not have an 8-pin PCI-E power connector.

I know this is nowhere near top of the line these days but it has a lot more upgrade potential than my current platform that is basically the fastest CPU and most RAM(4gb) that will go in my current motherboard. It has a two-CPU S5520HC motherboard and 6gb of DDR3 in it.

I just got a E5520 Xeon system given to me. I currently have a E8600 Core Duo system with a GTX 960 4GB GPU in it.
